On Monday,  November 27, 2017  Officer Mark Dahlem went to work at the Palatine Police Department just like any other day.  By Monday evening, Mark had seen a doctor for severe headaches, had an MRI scan and was told the news…. He had a mass on the right side of his brain.  Mark was hospitalized and went through multiple tests. Neurourgeons performed a craniotomy to remove most of Mark’s tumor on Thursday, November 30.   On  Tuesday, December 5, the Dahlems received some hard news. Mark was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) grade IV, an aggressive form of brain cancer. In the coming weeks, Mark will continue to recuperate from his brain surgery. He has met with an amazing oncology team to form a treatment plan that will include radiation and chemotherapy.  Kim and their children, Abby and Jack, will be right by Mark’s side for the duration of his treatment. There is also a strong network of family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and fellow parishiners who surround the Dahlems with love and support every day. Many have asked how they can help Mark and Kim during this challenging time. This fund has been set up on behalf of the Palatine Police Department to assist the Dahlems with medical expenses, food, child care and any other expenses incurred as a result of Mark’s diagnosis with cancer.  Please show your love and support for this wonderful family. Leave a message on the site to express your love and support. Keep Mark, Kim, Abby and Jack in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you so much.
